Summer

Belgian linen, washed once

It loosens with every wash. The creases are not a flaw; they are the argument.

The linen shirt, chalk

Cut a hand wider through the body, so the air moves and you do not have to.

The cotton tee, bone

Heavy enough to hold its shape, light enough to forget about by noon.

Natural cotton canvas, unlined. Carries the fish home and the towel back.

Care, briefly

Cold wash, line dry, no iron. The sun finishes what the machine started.

October to March

Winter

Merino, knitted close

Warm without the bulk, and fine enough to sit against the neck without a word of complaint.

Lambswool, brushed

Loftier than merino and kinder to a draughty flat. Oat, worn over everything.

The wool coat, camel

Double-faced cloth, so there is no lining to wear out before the coat does.

The wool throw, field

For the sofa, the night train, and the terrace after the sun has gone.

Care, briefly

Hand wash cold, press out the water, dry flat. Fold it; never hang it.

Three fibres, no blends.

We never mix fibres to bring a price down. Each one is asked to do a single job well; here is which job, and how to look after it.
