Merino over linen, collar out. The only look that paused at the door to let the evening light in.

Lambswool underneath, the clay overshirt worn open like a jacket. Warm colours for a cold room.

We pushed the cutting tables to the walls, swept the floor twice and walked the spring collection through the room it was made in.
There was no stage and no second pass. Six looks came out of the sample room, went the length of the atelier past the pressing station, turned at the rack of Belgian linen and went straight back in. Eleven minutes, start to finish, counting the pause when the cello needed retuning.
Nothing was made for the show alone. The chalk shirt that opened it is the one we have been cutting since February, and the camel coat that closed it is the same coat hanging in the shop. Every piece you saw was made in Portugal, and every one of them can be ordered tonight.

A hem on look 03 came loose at the last fitting. Six stitches, a borrowed needle, back on the rail by twenty past.
Two frames from the sample room, taken on a phone between fittings. Nobody was looking at the camera.
We gave up on steaming the chalk shirt. Belgian linen creases again by the first turn, so we let it.
