A short walk up from the river
One room, a long oak table and a kettle that is nearly always on. Most of what is on this site is on the shelves, and a few things — the mended pieces, the last of a colour — are only ever here.

Editor’s noteThis is the one I reach for when the shop is cold in the morning. Lambswool, made in Portugal and knitted a little loose, so it settles on you rather than gripping. It pills a touch in the first month, then stops.

Editor’s noteOur heaviest cloth, and the piece people come back to try on a second time. A plain collar, two deep pockets, no lining to wear through. Warm enough for a Lisbon January, and cut to go over a thick knit.

Editor’s noteThe bag we pack your parcels in, made properly. Unbleached cotton canvas, one inside pocket, handles long enough for a shoulder. It carries a week of groceries or a single loaf equally well, and it softens rather than sags.

I bought the oat sweater in November and have worn it most days since. It has kept its shape, which is more than I can say for the rest of my wardrobe.
The coat arrived in Berlin wrapped in paper, with a handwritten note about the pockets. I have hardly taken it off since the first cold morning.
I came in to ask about a repair and left with a tote and a cup of tea. The hem came back the following week, straighter than when it was new.
